Peking duck farmers
Peking duck farmers participating in the Initiative Tierwohl raise their animals according to specific criteria that exceed legal standards. After successfully passing an audit, they can supply their animals to abattoirs approved by the Initiative Tierwohl. In the trade, consumers can identify products from certified farms by the product seal.
Criteria for peking duck production
For Peking duck farmers, the Initiative Tierwohl offers the “Stall plus Platz” programme. To participate, livestock owners must meet a series of criteria. A clearly defined, comprehensive set of requirements ensures that all animals in the Initiative Tierwohl meet the same high standards. Only in this way can the Initiative Tierwohl’s Seal provide a consistent statement about how the animals were raised.
- Basic criteria: livestock farming, hygiene, animal health
- Antibiotics monitoring
- Documentation of diagnostic data from slaughter
- Daylight
- Barn floors
- Organic activity material
- Additional drinkers
- Breeding line
- Procedures performed on the animal
- Barn climate check
- Drinking water check
Registration
1. Preliminary Check: If interested, livestock owners must first review the documents in the download section of the website to determine whether participation is even an option for them and their company – in other words, whether it is feasible
2. Select a coordinator: In the next step, livestock owners must choose a coordinator from the list of approved coordinators with whom they will enter into an agreement to participate in the Initiative Tierwohl.
3. Registration: Registration is completed using the registration form, which the coordinator fills out and which is countersigned by both the coordinator and the livestock owner. The coordinator enters the livestock owner’s data into the Initiative Tierwohl database, thereby registering them. In doing so, the livestock owner also specifies when they will begin implementing the Initiative Tierwohl’s requirements (implementation date).
4. Audit: Once the implementation date has been reached, the programme audit takes place. If the audit is passed, the livestock owners receive a confirmation of participation and are authorized to supply products for the Initiative Tierwohl upon release of the audit report.
Certification
Every company participating in the Initiative Tierwohl must expect one programme audit and one stock check per calendar year. The stock checks are conducted without prior notice.
